All teeth whitening products utilise a whitening agent to penetrate the enamel of the teeth where they break down the discoloured molecules. The exact stages of your treatment journey will differ according to which teeth whitening treatment you choose to use – we offer both at-home treatments and combination treatments which also include an in-practice treatment.
With home-based teeth whitening, you’ll be fitted for your bespoke whitening trays here at the practice. Once these have been made for you, you’ll wear them for two weeks with the whitening gel formula of your choice – this will either be for 3-4 hours a day or overnight. The whitening trays will protect your gums and other mouth tissue while the gel gets to work whitening your teeth.
Combination treatments utilise the same home-based treatment method using bespoke-made whitening trays and a gel formula of the patient’s choice, with the added benefit of final in-practice treatment.
The shade of your teeth at the end of the treatment varies between patients and is dependent upon the shade of the teeth at the beginning of the treatment, and the treatment used. However, we do also work with Enlighten Evolution, which is the only teeth whitening treatment able to offer a B1 shade guarantee.
Most teeth whitening treatments take just two weeks to take effect.
Most treatments can produce whiter teeth that last for 3-12 months but this will depend on the product used. It also slightly depends on the patient’s lifestyle and diet, as smoking, drinking tea, coffee, red wine, and eating heavily coloured foods can lead to whitened teeth losing their shine more quickly.
